November 14, 2024

Bexar County's S.M.A.R.T Program is expanding to operate 24/7.

The Specialized Multidisciplinary Alternate Response Team, known as S.M.A.R.T, is the county's crisis mental health response team created by the Commissioners Court. It is directed by the County and administered by the Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC). The team consists of law enforcement officers, paramedics, and mental health professionals to address 9-1-1 calls indicating a mental health need.

According to KSAT, with the additional resources to operate around the clock, S.M.A.R.T aims to respond to more calls than before.
