College Station Police Department Growing Mental Health Response with Grant Funding

January 6, 2025

Following recent approval from the College Station City Council, Police Chief Billy Couch has accepted grant funding from the Office of the Governor's Texas State Crisis Intervention Program.

The grant, totaling $464,552, will fund two full-time police officers dedicated to responding to mental health crisis calls and proactively assisting individuals to prevent future crises. This funding will enhance education, threat assessment, and overall crisis response, while also alleviating pressure on the parole unit. Additionally, it aligns with the city's objective of good governance by addressing gaps in mental health services and reducing the burden on emergency responders.
