Lubbock Leaders Break Ground on New Mental Health Diversion Center

April 4, 2024

Multiple health care leaders broke ground in East Lubbock for the Hope Center, a new mental health diversion center. The diversion center is for individuals experiencing mental health crises and has been in development after years of work from local and state advocates.

According to FOX 34, StarCare CEO, Beth Lawson, says providing the right care in the right setting is what the community and these patients need.

"Whether we're recovering from divorce, a mental health crisis, substance use disorder or a fractured relationship, hope is necessary. And in an environment where hope is omnipresent, that is the first step to allowing people to feel comfortable enough to begin the healing process," Lawson said.

Other leaders in attendance at the breaking ground ceremony include County Judge Curtis Parrish, Mayor Tray Payne, and State Senator Charles Perry.

The Hope Center is set to open on June 1, 2025.
