New Report Finds More Energy and Growth Around Juvenile-Diversion Reforms
The National Criminal Justice Association (NCJA) shared details of how jurisdictions across the nation are making substantial advances on diversion. This growth is being described by the Sentencing Project as a diversion-reform movement.
According to NCJA, until recently, diversion's performance across the country has been inconsistent at best. However, a new report written by Richard "Dick" Mendel, a senior researcher for youth justice at the Sentencing Project, suggests there's been a shift and more energy around diversion than ever before. There have also been implementations by state and local justice systems as well as national technical assistance providers for a variety of new diversion efforts. Mendel writes in his report that this shift in energy signifies the beginning of a national movement to make diversion the norm for addressing most delinquent conduct by America's adolescents.
